background: isabella was left on the streets as a child when her family could no longer afford to care for her. she was caught stealing from Carter Hawthorne, son of renowned lanista Amanda Hawthorne. instead of punishing her they took her in - clothed her, fed her, raised her - and in return, at the age of thirteen, she took on the name Bellona and began training in the Hawthorne Ludus, readying her to one day compete on their behalf in the annual Gladiatorial Games in Rome.
